“The young widow of Bethulia, Judith, was created by the Hungarian Dalma Krajnyák. Her contralto is unusual, interesting and charming. A little even mystical. I have never heard such a sound before. Krajnyák’s Judith is a seemingly innocent, modest girl (as she is in the flat, panel puppet), but she breaks out of all theatrical trappings and, in the most dramatic moments, becomes free, radiating the energy of peace. The graceful, red-haired Krajnyák is particularly suited to this idea of Varnas. She, as written in the libretto of Triumphant Judith, overcomes the barbarity of Holofernes.Varnas a stranger to pathos throughout his creative life, and so the stage charm of the soloist, who is distinguished by her modesty and subtlety, consisted of her small movements, her reactions to her surroundings, her voice and the nuances of her control.”
